Shane is a really cool guy. I reached out because I wanted to understand his bat and how his mind worked. I ended up valuing the friendship over anything else. Check out his video and consider subscribing to him here: nolocal.info/have/video/haejarqgyJqv1Ko

I think there’s some things to help your record out coming from a baseball player. First off the vinyl balls are killing your power. As a baseball player, we call those dead balls. They’re great for BP in cages because they’re cheap and don’t scuff. If you were to use MLB baseballs they’d fly better because the core of the ball is more springy. Make sure the surface is real leather and the seams are not raised. A better swing can also help you out. The ball being pitched towards you also gives you extra distance, it’s harder to hit a home run off a tee than it is in real pitching. Back spin is another thing I noticed y’all struggled with. Win you roll over, obviously you get a ground ball. When you upper cut, you get top spin so the ball won’t carry. If you can get a more level swing and still get a good launch angle plus it will carry further because of backspin. I hope you see this and can milk every foot out of that record! I live in Huntsville so if you have some kind of public event I’ll be sure to come check it out!

Also if you made the pusher part that hits the ball flat rather than round It would work far better Yu are not hitting the ball squarely and all your force Is rolling away from propelling the ball.

  • Sehing Francis
    Sehing Francis2 timer siden

The pushing after the shock of the cartridge is going off is taking energy away from the flight of the ball. Eliminate that pushing spring unlike the ball achieve its velocity and see what that is before you took it away by the secondary push.

Ge with some ammunition reloaders and explore the forces behind the deformation, cratering, and piercing of over-pressuring primers. Then go after the separation of cartridge case heads, the welding of cartridge cases to the chamber wall, and the "improving" of cases by blowing the shoulder forward. Then, there's what happens to the bullet. Study "The Houston Warehouse" for more exciting questions.

Making the hammer as light as possible as well as making the bat itself as heavy as possible gives you maximum momentum as the bat's momentum is higher and is not decreased that much by the hammer accelerating. Like you want to send as little mass as possible that is not the ball because accelerating mass requires energy.

Your squish delay is internal energy loss, the contact was still being made and the ball still deformed slightly. But when the paddle pushed, that initial delay was because the ball was deforming - internal energy loss you could say - once the ball reached its most compact state for that given acceleration the ball itself started to accelerate.

You should try to ingite the cartridges before the bat hits the ball, like a hollow charge. I wouldn't use a pin that would make contact with the ball. I think of something like a light barrier. But this would made the the bat very dangerous to handle.

The Official League balls are considered a practice ball with a cork and rubber core. These balls deform and perform significantly different from a MLB spec (yarn and rubber pill) ball when struck. They may have a similar C.O.R. to a game spec ball but permanently deform (which is seen in the high speed video) when struck at typical swing speeds and must have turned very non-baseball shape after the force from the charged bat. Thank you both for this very interesting experiment.

I am so grateful to be alive today. My girlfriend saved my life last night. This is a selfie I took in the emergency room after having a severe allergic reaction to almonds. I went into anaphylaxis, meaning my face, my lips, my eyes, my tongue, and my throat all started swelling up rapidly, making it almost impossible for me to breathe. I also had a rash all over my entire body, and I was extremely red. Staying alive had never felt more difficult. At one point, my nasal passage was completely blocked, and it was getting more and more difficult to breathe. They shot me up with Benadryl, steroids, they gave me a breathing tube, and even other stuff that I can’t even remember, and it caused all of the swelling and the rash to go away. Because this was a severe allergic reaction, I need to continue taking steroids and Benadryl for the next week, because it is possible that the allergic reactions could come back at any point over the next week. The steroids and Benadryl make me feel like a zombie, and I really want to take care of my health, so this will be my main focus over the next week. I want to thank my amazing girlfriend, who made the decision to take me to the emergency room the second I started feeling itchy. I was hesitant about going, because I didn’t even want to believe this was actually happening. If it weren’t for my girlfriend driving me to the emergency room only minutes after eating the almonds, there is a good chance that I wouldn’t have made it according to the doctor. This has been without a doubt the hardest few days of my life, but I also look at them as the most important few days of my life. These moments have reminded me about what’s really important in life, and it has made me so grateful to even be here on this earth. I will be prioritizing my health over the next week, and I’ll post updates about how I feel. Thank you all for being patient during these difficult times. This week has been NUTS (too soon for jokes? 😅)

Outstandingly cool video, wickedly cool idea. Maybe you guys could team up to miniaturize a variant of your supersonic baseball cannon technology using compressed gas to actuate the piston in Shaun's bat. That way the piston could be electronically triggered and you could overcome the delay of the chemical reaction to create the gas pressure. Just spit balling, but maybe shaping the impact area of the piston with the ball to optimize the launch angle and using a material that transfers compression to the ball better. You guys are a blast, looking forward to your 1000+ foot knock.

It definitely does hit it twice. It seemed obvious that there is a slight delay as it requires the ball to impact the bat to set off the cartridge. If you had some sensors that could detect that the ball is about to contact the bat and it sets it off the cartridges as soon as it hits the bat that way you could also take advantage of the inertia of the bat being swung.
