I had a horrible experience with the IUD as well. Extreme painful cramp every period that last 2 days; to the point I could not leave my bed eventhough before I’d had rarely any cramp. And frequent spotting. I got it taken out and immediately felt way way better. Thank you for sharing 💕

My older sister had an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit, and another smaller one. They both ruptured, and now she gets them all the time too. They think it might be autoimmune related. Autoimmune diseases run in my family. I have two that we know of but I'm also still running a lot of tests for undiagnosed issues. So maybe, you might want to look into a rheumatologist. I also have gluten intolerance that is autoimmune related.

I got an IUD and 3 days later I got the worst headache ever and my neck went stiff. I could not move my neck at all. I could not understand why I was in so much pain and then remembered I had gotten the iud. My body had some weird reaction to this foreign object inside my body and stated to retaliate. I had to get it removed.

Thanks for sharing! I had been on the pill for about 15 years (except while having 2 kids and breastfeeding) but started having adverse reactions like hormonal headaches and then finally erythma nodosum this past summer. My legs and ankles were swollen as if I was about to deliver a baby, it was weird and I was so fatigued during it. It was my cue to get off the pill. I had the Paragard inserted in September and am so happy to be free of added hormones!! My body is happy and my boobs got bigger, lol. Periods are as long as they were when I was a teenager, but it doesnt bother me knowing the hormones I have are my natural ones, meant to be in my body.

I had the exact same thing going on with my IUD. It was all good, I mean putting it in was horrible and I fainted too but it was the best for 3 Years and then I got an ovarian cyst. It was as big as a baseball and I had to go into surgery. After that I struggled with cyst monthly so I got my IUD removed and since then, its gone!

IUD's can cause cysts, you can find research for that, sorry to have to tell you that. I've had multiple since having the IUDs and was told by multiple gynos and my doctor the they caused it. I've had 3 IUD's in total, all Skyla. Two expelled (moved out of place in my uterus - severely painful). I had one that expelled in there for almost a year before doctors finally removed it. IT was a MESS. But I can't use birth control and other than that, I will still keep using them. It's definitely a preference. Just listen to your body and go get checked out and internal ultrasounds if anything feels weird or different. Better safe than sorry!

I feel like the arm implant is really underrated but its an awesome option! I love it, and it was a good alternative to the IUD because I have a condition that prevents me from having any form of penetration. It stays in for 3 years, got rid of my period and the process of getting it in was painless and less than 30 minutes.

It cleared my skin, i didn’t gain weight and it made my periods tolerable (i have terrible periods as well as bartholin cysts, don’t google unless you want to be traumatized) and the pill has been helpful in all this. Unfortunately I lost my insurance when the pandemic hit so I haven’t been able to get it but I am going to look in to PPH.

I had the copper IUD and it was the worst experience of my life. It caused so much inflammation and autoimmune issues. I had severe anemia, cramps etc on the Paragaurd. I feel like IUD's are truly not meant to be in our bodies as it is meant to cause inflammation. I had two friends who's body rejected the IUD and they came out fully :/ I've also tried the pill etc and nothing was in alignment with my health. I have used the Daysy Fertility Tracker for the past four years and its the best thing that ever happened to me. I love being in control of my body and knowing its natural rhythms. Thank you for sharing your experience! More women should be open and honest about their journey with bc. Also, hormonal birth control as a whole causes cysts, PCOS etc

I had to have three rounds of pain killers just so the pain would lessen enough that I could lie down without crying. My OBGYN also put me on the pill to prevent the formation of anymore too! Thank you for talking about this! I know it's so much more common than people realize and I honestly was never educated on it till it happened to me.

I WILL NEVER GET AN IUD AGAIN... I had an IUD for about 5 years (2 Skylas) and prior to that I was on the pill for 4ish years. The pill make me feel a little weird/I was sick of taking it every day/the IUD was more effective, so switching was a no brainer. I LOVED my first IUD. I could barely feel it and insertion pain wise I always said it was bearable enough to do once a year, defintiely every 3 years. I had no periods immediately after (still haven't gotten one which is now super concerning) and I never had and mood changes or anything. BUT after 5 years shit started going down hill when I injured myself doing a funky move during yoga. My whole pelvic area was hurt, I felt like trash, and I went through a good bit of physical therapy and pelvic relaxation techniques, but I could never figure it out. Eventually, my *lady parts* were so damn inflamed that it stunned my gyno as it was blood red and not getting oxygen. I was getting cramps, fatigue, and severe back pain. My 2 gynos, of course, did not recommend removing the IUD (if you want a real horror story, look into how little research is done on birth control before it's distributed), but my chiropractor did. Thank god. I finally removed it after 4 months of pain and a good 50% subsided that month (the last 50% has been slowly dwindling alongside physical therapy). I will say I had other posture issues that contributed, but the IUD was also doing a lot of harm. My pelvic area was inflamed af and when I began looking into IUDs I realized this inflammation is normal and can *sometimes* cause infertility as your tubes swell/muscles harden in response. All in all, I used to be the girl that told ALL of my gfs to get an IUD, but I will never get one again and my body is much happier now. Hope this helps someone!

I’m an ob gyn. It’s called Lo Estrin “eff ee” not “fay.” The Fe stands for the element symbol for iron. Some of the pills contain ferrous fumarate. You took/take 10 micrograms of estrogen in the form of ethinyl estradiol, not 10 milligrams. You probably had corpus luteum cysts; wise to switch back to pills. Try taking an NSAID like Motrin before a procedure, it can reduce cramping and might prevent what sounds like vasovagal syncope. Thanks for sharing this with your audience. Sorry for your scary experiences...

Oh my gosh wow. I’ve been having cysts too and they are TERRIBLE. QUESTION: You mentioned the first time the rupture/pain happened you went in and they took an ultrasound and said you had a cyst. But that the second time you had really bad pain they said there actually wasn’t a cyst. Did I get that right? Did you figure out what it was? Because the same exact thing is happening to me. I’ve had previous cysts and am very familiar with the pain. Months went by without one and then the pain (I’m all too familiar with) came back. So I went and go an ultrasound naturally thinking it was a cyst but there wasn’t anything there... and now I’m confused lol Wondering if you can touch more on your experience with that ?

I got the copper iud (aka non-hormonal iud)1.5 years ago and I thought I was gonna have to get it removed during the first 24 hours because the pain was sooooo bad and my inner lady bits were very swollen. I was awake all night crying in pain and I thought I was gonna have to go to the ER at 3am (but I didn’t). Luckily, the pain reduced significantly after the first day. I remained a little crampy for about two days post op but then I felt okay! I still have the iud, and I’ve loved it ever since! I powered through the pain and took some pills regularly until the cramps went away. Despite my insertion experience, I do recommend the iud but obviously it isn’t the best option for other people. Hopefully my experience that started negative and turned out positive will inspire some people. If anyone has questions I don’t mind answering! (But I’m not a medical professional)

Lordddd. I relate to the pain, for nearly a whole year I would get these random bouts of awful pain which I went to the drs and told was nothing. In September that year it was the worse it had ever been I was crying and vomiting and they found I had an ovarian cyst that was causing an ovarian torsion. Even still at first the thought it wasn’t as bad as a scan suggested it was 3cm in diameter which meant it wouldn’t need surgery. When they did the ultrasound it was actually 8cm and needed to be removed right away - the cyst had been wrapping around one of my ovaries and cutting off the blood supply so I lost my ovary too. All at the age of 16 as well. Absolutely the worst pain of my life
